Word is that Pop Skull was made for only $3000, but there's no way you'd know from watching it. Director Adam Wingard gets more cinematic bang for his buck than filmmakers with budgets one thousand times bigger than his. This psychedelic thriller explores the life of Daniel – a pill-popping drug addict – using frenetic, eye-popping visuals to illustrate exactly what it's like to be way beyond fucked up. This is the ultimate psychological horror, digging deep into the protagonist's psyche and delivering some seriously intoxicating and terrifying visions. Once the ghosts start popping up in Daniel's house, you'll be too far gone to turn back. But don't let the flashing lights and the horror tropes fool you, this film is unlike any other you've seen, and ultimately it is way more about creating a mood than it is about big scares.
The film has a warning at the beginning that it "may not be suitable for individuals diagnosed with epilepsy" and that is 100% solid advice.
