U S A
William Castle was one of the most outrageous showmen in movie history. He hyped up his B-grade horror flicks with spectacular (and spectacularly bad) publicity stunts and gimmicks, earning himself a place in pop culture history. This awesomely entertaining (and informative!) doc does justice to his legacy, offering an engaging blend of interviews, archival footage, and animated graphics that goes way beyond the talking heads you’d find in a lesser film. John Waters, Roger Corman, Stuart Gordon, Marcel Marceau, Leonard Maltin, and Castle's own daughter are among the cast of characters called upon to illuminate the filmmaker's life and legacy. The desire to see a Castle film with the original audience and gimmicks intact becomes almost unbearable. "Emergo?" "The Tingler?" Joan Crawford with a fucking axe? Trust us, you want to see this film.
